Vienna event to support local children

The Vienna Moose Lodge will host a community event in December that helps feed children in Fairfax County.

The Vienna Community Power Pack Event invites people to donate and pack items to keep children from going hungry during the school year. The activity is part of the Food for Others Power Pack Program, which creates backpack meals for kids with limited access to meals over the weekend. The event is sponsored by Laura Schwartz, Gina Myers, and Lauren Kinard.

The organizers want people to donate several kinds of food to the program. Participants can bring breakfast items such as oatmeal packets, individual cereal Boxes, and granola bars with no peanut butter. Attendees may also bring lunch and dinner donations like mac and cheese cups and chicken salad kits. Fruit juice and shelf-stable milk will also be accepted.

The Power Pack Program provides take-home meals to students from over 44 Fairfax County schools. More than 3,500 children receive donations from the program. The Vienna-specific schools that will benefit from this event include Fairhill Elementary School, Louise Archer Elementary School, and Thoreau Middle School.

The event will be on Sunday, December 10th from 11:00am to 1:00pm. There is no cost to attend the food drive or help pack the meals. Organizations holding community packing events similar to this may use poster printing to promote their volunteer opportunities.
