The Muse Writers Center in Norfolk will offer a class on writing comedy for movies in October and November.
Crafting Comedy in Cinema is a two-part course that introduces students to how they can incorporate comedic elements into their writing for films. The course is led by John Forte and will cover topics such as the rule of three, making callbacks, and absurdity. Students will also learn about the differences between satire and parody. The in-person class is open to adults and can be taken by screenwriters and general storytellers. There are no prerequisites needed for the course.
The Muse Writers Center is a nonprofit organization that hosts writing classes and seminars for writers of all levels. The facility has multiple classrooms, a recording studio, an auditorium, and a library. The center offers tuition assistance to students who wish to take writing lessons but cannot afford the cost. High schoolers can participate in the Teen Writers Fellowship, a program that was launched in 2019 to connect teen writers with experienced writing mentors.
The course on writing comedy will be held on Saturday, October 26th and Saturday, November 2nd. The sessions are from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Those interested in the course can pay $95. There are only eight spots available for the class. People can become members of the Muse Writers Center for $60 per year. Nonprofit education centers like this can advertise their programs with poster printing services.
