War of 1812 to come under new focus

The Fairfax County History Commission's 10th annual history conference is being held this November. The theme of this year's conference is ‘Fire, Flight and Fury’, and it is about the War of 1812 in Fairfax County.

Guests will have a continental breakfast and lunch, and they can also view historical exhibits and enter a trivia contest for prizes. There will be a welcome speech from Sharon Bulova, the Chairman of Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

The main part of the event will be talks from authors and various other experts on the history of Fairfax County. Among the topics confirmed at this festival are The Star Spangled Banner with an F. Scott Fitzgerald re-enactor, The Ships of the Potomac, a talk by a Dolley Madison re-enactor, the 60th Militia of Fairfax City and Fairfax County, and the War of 1812.

Some of the exhibits may be decorated with photographs, Posters and Banners to make them more interesting to visitors from all over including McLean. These items could all be provided by local printing companies for a reasonable price.

The Fairfax County history conference is taking place at the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center in Fairfax on November 8 from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. Tickets are $20 each. Visit the event website to find more about planned activities.
