Artistic workshop teaches McLean creatives new skills

A creative workshop is coming to McLean next month, with participants learning how to use pastels and other tools to create masterpieces from home.

The Pastel Foundation is set to kick off its Techniques for Expressive Landscapes workshop soon, where registered guests will learn about the secrets behind the creation of dreamy landscapes. The session will be a hands-on learning experience with guidance from Bryan Jernigan, an experienced and knowledgeable local artist. The learning session is designed to be a lesson that will further each artist’s journey.

Jernigan will provide essential lessons on pastel art during the workshop, which is slated to last 2.5 hours. The early parts of the workshop will focus on using color, value, and mark-making to create the foundation of a piece. Print shops can help local artists by creating impressive prints of their works, allowing them to share their skills with collectors and art enthusiasts.

The class will continue by using photo references to create life-like landscapes. The class is ideal for beginners and experienced pastel artists. The gathering will begin with a warm-up exercise to get each participant’s mind ready to learn.

The McLean Art Gallery will host the pastel workshop on Sunday, January 11th, starting at 2:00 PM. Free parking will be available at the venue. Tickets are $150 per participant online.
