School in McLean celebrates 75th birthday

The Langley School, a private elementary and middle school in McLean, Virginia, recently celebrated 75 years.

The students of the Langley School marked the anniversary by taking part in special activities based on their grade levels. Children who attend the primary school division of the Langley School engaged in tasks like locating cities that are 75 miles from McLean, creating a birthday card that addressed what it was like to live 75 years ago and what it may be like to live on earth in 75 years’ time, and producing a crown using paint and student’s handprints·.

Students at the middle school division of the Langley School contributed by interviewing family members who were living in 1942, writing limericks about the Langley School, and discovering the last 75 earthquakes that happened worldwide.

The head of the Langley School, Dr. Elinor Scully, said about the festivities:

“These activities not only taught our students about the importance of this special anniversary year, but also gave them an understanding of the time period in which Langley was founded, the generations before them who helped build the school into what it is today, and the impact they, too, can have on the future success of The Langley School.”
