The McLean Winterfest is on its way, with the city’s only community parade highlighting the event.
The city is partnering with the Old Firehouse Teen Center and the McLean Community Center to host this year’s Winterfest. Spectators can also enjoy food from Mama’s Donut Bites and Rockland’s BBQ food trucks. Pre-parade entertainment will feature local schools performing holiday songs starting at 2:30 pm, an hour before the parade.
The parade route has remained unchanged and will again go from Fleetwood to Old Chain Bridge Road to Elm Street. The viewing stand will be set up at the Langley Shopping Center. McLean resident Peggy Fox will once again serve as emcee.
Now in its 11th year, the parade depends on sponsorships by the local business communities as well as individual residents to defray parade expenses. Parade spectators are asked to bring a gift card to donate to Share of McLean.
Businesses, as well as political candidates, often view sponsorships of events such as this one as a promotional opportunity and may also choose to pass out items such as promotional Pens to the crowd.
Residents and visitors alike will want to take note of road closures for the parade. Old Chain Bridge Road will close to Elm Street at 2:00 pm on the day of the parade, December 1, and will remain closed until the parade’s is concluded. Moreover, street parking on Beverly Road and parts of Fleetwood Street will be prohibited on parade day.
