Gannett Co., Inc, a company headquartered in McLean that specializes in media services, announced on October 20 that it would be releasing the first branded virtual reality news experience, titled ‘VRtually There’.
The new creation is an immersive virtual reality experience produced by the USA Today Network that seeks to allow journalists to present news in a new way. It will also allow commercials, known as "cubemercials", to be presented in virtual reality.
The USA Today Network will be partnering with brands such as Toyota, Saatchi, and Saatchi LA to launch the virtual news experience. Toyota will be the first cubemercial presented on VRtually There, and will also have a virtual reality promotion of the 2017 Toyota Camry.
Lisa McQueen, the Media Manager for Toyota Motor Sales, Inc., said about the experience:
“We believe in creating amazing experiences for our guests, so we’re excited to help launch USA Today Network’s innovative VR show, bringing incredible virtual reality experiences to its audience. The network’s approach to bold storytelling and use of new mediums aligns with our brand and our creative approach for the new 2017 Toyota Camry.”
No doubt aided by professional printing services to boost awareness, VRtually There is set to release every Thursday at 2:00 pm ET with three news stories per episode, and will be available through the USA Today application.
