The Northwest Federal Credit Union’s philanthropic arm, NWFCU Foundation, spent a week after #GivingTuesday working within Herndon to improve the community.
Projects included throwing a children’s surprise holiday party at the local outreach center, cleaning the local shelter’s storage space, and connecting with low-income families to offer a workshop on budgeting.
Alexzandra Shade, Executive Director, said that service and giving back to the Herndon community is a foundational principle for the organization.
The first events the foundation organized were visiting the Inova Cares Clinic for Children and opening the 2018 scholarship program. Karen Berube, the community health center’s vice president, thanked NWFCU Foundation for their contribution to the center’s work.
The credit union also donated $1,000 to the Dranesville Elementary School’s mentorship program. Many companies use brochure printing to demonstrate their charitable works within nearby area, as research has shown that customers like to interact with businesses that give back to their communities.
The Foundation was created in 2004 to manage and promote the credit union’s philanthropic and charitable activities. The organization’s mission is empowering youth in order to help them achieve goals by supporting their well-being and health. The credit union itself is a financial institution that offers full services. Established in 1947, the credit union serves over 250,000 members, and has over $3bn in assets.
