What's Happening in Orem, UT…

Theater offers new take on old humbug

The Christmas holidays would not be complete without attending at least one performance of Dickens’ classic ‘A Christmas Carol’. The last chance for Orem families will be the last performance of the holiday classic this season coming up next week.

This being the 30th annual production of the musical rendition of the classic play, the story revolves around the old curmudgeon Ebenezer Scrooge, who gets a visit from three ghosts on Christmas Eve who change his life for the better. Other well-known characters are the frail Tiny Tim and his father, Scrooge’s clerk, Bob Cratchit, and Mr. And Mrs. Fezziwig, who throw a truly impressive Christmas party.

This particular production was adapted by Melany and Rickard Wilkins and includes Charles Dickens as one of the characters. Utah’s own composer Barlow Bradford wrote many of the songs and arranged the traditional tunes as well. The Victorian costumes and lush scenery should make interesting subjects for poster printing.

This annual tradition will have its last performance for the year on Tuesday, December 23, at 8:00 pm at Hale Center Foundation for the Arts and Education‘s Hale Center Theater Orem, located at 225 West 400 North in Orem. The shows are expected to sell out fast, so those who are interested in attending need to get their tickets as soon as possible.
