Orem holds third annual gingerbread competition
University Place shopping mall will be holding its third annual gingerbread competition in Orem starting at the end of November, in which the winner receives $1,000.
Interested gingerbread enthusiasts can currently submit their applications and designs until November 11th. Each entry should be freestanding with a height of 24 inches or less, and the item will be anchored on an 18 by 18-inch sturdy base. Entries should be delivered to the shopping center between 8:30am and 8:00pm on November 28th by appointment only.
On November 30th, each baker and their plus one will meet the judges and discuss their entries. Judges will be looking for overall appearance, creativity, originality, and difficulty. First, second and third place winners will be announced at 6:00pm, and light refreshments will be served.
From November 30th until December 5th, the gingerbread houses will be able to be viewed at the Old Dress Barn space in City Court. The public will vote for their favorite entry, and
the People’s Choice Award will be announced at noon December 5th on social media.
Winners of baking contests such as these, especially children, often get their pictures taken with their entry and award. These pictures are sometimes sent to local print shops to be made into duplicates for family and friends.
Gingerbread entries that are not picked up between 6:00pm and 8:00pm on December 5th will be donated. University Place is located at 575 E. University Parkway.
