The Rockwall County Library was recently the location for an event to honor volunteers and seniors by Meals on Wheels as part of the celebration of Older Americans Day.
May has become Older Americans Month and is an occasion celebrated across the country. It was established in 1963. Margie VerHagen, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Senior Services, said that the county has been a part of this tradition to honor senior citizens for the past 15 years. The theme for this year was one that emphasized the idea that people of any age can contribute and give back to the community.
At the event, May 2018 was proclaimed by Jim Pruitt, mayor of Rockwall, as Older Americans Month in the city. He asked that residents use this opportunity to recognize the important role that senior citizens play in the community.
The event was also an opportunity for Meals on Wheels Senior Services to announce its first Havana Nights Gala. The event will have a Cuban theme and offers beverages, food, and live music by Party Machine. There will be a silent auction and attendees are encouraged to dress in the Cuban style. The event will take place on Saturday, October 20.
Various printing services are often used to publicize such celebrations and attract people to other special events.
