Rockwall event to celebrate dessert item

A festival in Rockwall is set to highlight a beloved sweet dish, taking place in mid-June.

The Texas Pie Fest is an event that was started just a few years ago, in 2019. The work of Melissa Tate and Brittany Hardin, the one-day celebration allows for the community to come together and enjoy themselves while enjoying a state-favourite treat.

Activities at the festival include pie eating and baking contests. Both have several age groups – 6 to 10, 11 to 15, and 16 to 99 for the eating, and 3 to 14 and 15 to 99 for the baking. Each contest and bracket will award a set of prizes and ribbons to the top three places.

Vendors will be set up with pies, a few other food options, and non-edible items for attendees to shop from. Some of the vendors booked so far include Easy Slider Food Truck, Bonafide Pie Co., Fletcher’s Corny Dogs, Papa Perry, Pie Crush Bakery, and The Moonbeam Bakery.

To honor the wrap up of the festival, a “Pie Fight” will begin at 3:00 pm. For this, guests will have access to a poncho and a massive amount of pies to throw. In order to partake, donations must be given to the Tate Farms Fire Rebuild Fund, in addition to having a ticket for the event. Flyer printing is often part of the promotion of festivals.

Tickets go for $10 for those aged 11 or older, while anyone younger, as well as dogs, are granted free admission. A full schedule can be found on the event website. The festival will take place at Tate Farms on June 18, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
