The Rockwall ISD Libraries are hosting a comic festival this year to allow students a chance to share the joy of a popular genre: comic Books. This will include graphic novels, comics, and more.
One main purpose of this event is to give students an opportunity to discuss these interests with their peers. This event also hopes to encourage students to read and explore creative outlets and activities.
There will be cosplay (costume) tutorials and a contest, drawing tutorials, and even comic creation walkthroughs. A pinball machine is available for those interested, as well as a room for playing Dungeons and Dragons, a fantasy role-playing game. Pokémon lessons will be available as well, likely based on the original trading card game.
Vendors will be in attendance at this event, ranging from comics and collectibles to art, jewelry, and pins. Many of these vendors may carry themed items from popular culture, beyond comics even to include TV shows and the like. Many of the vendors will likely have Business Cards on hand. There will be special guests and speakers at the event, primarily from the comic business, but also including a voice actor and a cosplay specialist.
Although this event is free and open to the public, the activities will be geared towards students age 18 and younger. Comic Fest will take place at Utley Middle School on Saturday, May 11 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.
