Toyotas Plano plant to be model of energy efficiency

Toyota, which is building a campus in Plano, has planned for it to be a model of both energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

The Japanese based automaker plans on installing solar panels on three structures that will be used for parking, and according to the company, it should be able to meet as much as 25% of its electricity needs.

Once it is complete, this 7.75-megawatt system will be the largest installation of its type on the whole state, and will keep up to 7,122 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions from being released into the atmosphere each year.

Toyota feels that its efforts to lower its carbon footprint will allow it to achieve a high level of environmental system for the Plano site. The company further hopes that it will both serve as an example of renewable energy to its employees, and help it to eliminate carbon emissions across all of its operations as part of its 2050 global challenge. Banners and other signage can be used as decorations when facilities like this open their doors and can also help the team members become more aware of using energy saving practices, both at work and at home.

The decision to use solar panels at the Plano plant follows suit with others Toyota has already built in California, Alabama, and Mississippi. It will allow collaboration between the teams that will be moving to the new facility from these sites.
