Plano class delves into culinary side of mushrooms

Mushrooms can be used to prepare a variety of satisfying meals, and a Plano workshop will allow local home chefs to explore a variety of types of food fungi.

The Mastering Mushrooms class will go beyond the typical “white button” so often found in grocery stores. It has been planned by Central Market Cooking School Plano, and the evening is for those age 18 and up.

Attendees will be rolling up their sleeves for some hands-on cookery, and they will be working with several sources. The basics, such as sauteing, will be discussed, and everyone will find out how they can be used to prepare meatless meals without sacrificing flavor. Lion’s mane, royal trumpet, oyster, and shitake species will all be used.

Cookery classes provide an opportunity to try new food and kitchen techniques in a warm and supportive environment. Copies of the recipes can be printed on cards to distribute – a service that can be performed by local Stationery printers.

Plano’s epicurious who would like to discover the joys of adding more mushroom to their kitchen lineup are welcome to register for this activity. It will be on Tuesday, April 21, starting at 6:30 pm. Each ticketholder will need to sign a waiver before the class kicks off, so they are asked to arrive a few minutes early.
