Plano gets inside scoop on seed starting

Savvy gardeners know that starting seeds on their own can bring some big rewards, and this practice will be the focus of a Plano area workshop.

Starting vegetable seeds at home need not be a complicated process, and the class organized at 506 Hilltop Drive in Murphy will help point the way. It can both save money and allow home gardeners to expand their range of choices beyond what they can purchase at their local garden center or big box store.

The hands-on class will teach simple, basic methods for growing both herbs and veggies from seed, and everyone will be introduced to the equipment for doing so. They will learn how to put together a "sprouting set-up” without breaking the bank, and advice for which plants should be started or transplanted on which dates will be shared. Troubleshooting tips for avoiding legginess (or etiolation), fungal diseases like “damping off,” and stunted growth in the seedlings will round out the session.

A workshop may offer an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a particular area. A brochure printing company can supply a range of choices when it comes to handouts and other learning materials for an activity.

This chance for Plano gardeners to get the inside scoop on seed starting is scheduled for February 21st. It will begin at 10:00 am sharp. The registration fee is $36.64.
