At the end of this month, there is going to be a festival to celebrate Egypt at Discovery Green.
The aim of the event is to bring attention to the influence that Egyptian culture, with its thousands of years of traditions, has on modern society. At the same time, the event will raise proceeds to be awarded to several nonprofit organizations.
The event will feature Egyptian cuisines and recipes that have been in existence for thousands of years. Participants will be able to sample pita wraps, kushari (a rice and lentil dish), baklava (a sweet pastry), and other dishes born of the Egyptian culture.
For entertainment, guests will be able to listen to music played by instruments represented in pharaonic Egypt, such as hand-held drums, rattles, castanets, bells, and the percussive sistrum. There will be live performances by several Arabic artists, including Jabour Balka. Guests will also be intrigued by the belly dancing of public dance performers, who were known as ‘Ghawazi’ in Ancient Egyptian times. Event organizers might benefit from the use of Banners that help define and mark the featured attractions. Camel rides will also be given onsite.
All of the action will take place Saturday, October 29 from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm at Discovery Green located at 1500 Mckinney Street, just 16 miles north of Pearland.
