The Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter from Nimitz High School partnered with Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) to clean up Trinity View Park last month.
The cleanup, which was part of the ‘National FFA Week’, took place on February 25, which was a chilly Saturday. A total of 24 volunteers helped out, donating 96 hours of their time. During the day, the volunteers picked up 114lb of litter.
Irving's Parks Department provided guidance to the volunteers and gave them access to Trinity View. The effort was centered on tree lines, and the banks of the creeks leading to Trinity River's Elm Fork.
This is the third year in a row the two organizations have worked together during National FFA Week. The week, which is the anniversary of George Washington's birth, is chosen specifically to honor his legacy as a farmer and agriculturist. FFA chapters from high schools nationwide take part in service projects for their communities during this week.
Kelly Horn, a board member of KIB, applauded the students for giving up a Saturday to help beautify Irving. She also said KIB has worked with Nimitz and other schools for years, and the experience has always been positive.
