Major construction company plans renovation in Irving

Caterpillar, a giant of construction, is planning to renovate a property they purchased last year in Irving.

The renovation work spans 107,000 square feet and is on Walnut Hill Lane, of which 400,000 square feet is office space. The name of the project is “Project Stone” and will cost the company $36 million to renovate. It is less than three miles from global headquarters of the company in Irving at The Towers at Williams Square. There are over 800 people working at Williams Square and about 6,000 employees across the state. All the employees and customers of the company will be able to be accommodated in the two spaces.

The property at Walnut Hill was built in the early 1980s and was the headquarters for Zales, a jewelry retailer. Vari, an office furniture manufacturer, purchased the property in 2019. The estimated value of the property, according to the Dallas Central Appraisal District, is $51.5 million.

Caterpillar’s global headquarters was originally in Peoria until 2017 when it moved to suburban Chicago. Its headquarters were relocated in 2022 to Texas. Caterpillar is still a major employer in the Peoria area.

The project is expected to be completed by August of next year.
