National Night Out will be held in Irving next month.

This is an event that is focused on the community and designed to build trust between residents and the police department. Law enforcement, local businesses, elected officials, members of the community, and the police department are brought together on this one day in an informal and safe setting to build trust, share information, and promote the safety of the public. It is like a “going away party” for crime. The only state where this program is celebrated in October is Texas.

During this event there are vigils on people’s front porches and traditional “lights on” across the city. Other activities that typically occur during National Night Out include cookouts, block parties, parades, safety demonstrations, flashlight walks, and visits with local police.

Irving’s National Night Out looks to build stronger bonds in the community and encourages proactive public safety through collaboration. The Irving Police Department sees the event as essential to its commitment to accountability and transparency, giving every resident a voice in a secure, thriving community.
