What's Happening in Irving, TX…

Irving pet lovers had a great time at the city’s recent Pet Pawlooza.

Celebrated on March 28, the event saw experts in animal behavior and science, as well as vendors, gathering to talk to owners about how to best care for their pets. The day was also a celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Irving Animal Care Campus.

Among the activities on the day were adoptions as a very special rate. Those who adopted an animal from either the DFW Humane Society or Irving Animal Services paid only $5. Adoptions are often in the $85-$100 range, particularly for dogs. The Texas Coalition for Animal Protection provided free veterinary services to Pet Pawlooza attendees.

Many people came to chat, browse the vendors’ stands, and visit other pet owners and their pets. Others took home a new friend; any animal adopted that day already had its vaccinations, and had been dewormed and microchipped.

Vendors like Jen Wyffels of Petco said she hopes to see stronger bonds between dogs and their owners, noting that many of the dogs that end up in shelters could avoid that fate if they had some training. She is a strong advocate of adoption.

The various animal organizations could join forces and work with a flyer printing company to create handouts for next year’s event.
