New healthcare facility set up in Las Colinas

McKesson Corporation, a healthcare corporation, has opened a new facility in the Las Colinas area of Irving.

The orgaziation partners with various providers, including pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, and government agencies to provide healthcare, medicines, and healthcare IT in a timely manner to a wide range of providers. The grand opening took place April 6, 2017, according to an article on Yahoo! Finance.

Attending the event were Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, and John Hammergren, McKesson's CEO. To mark the day, the McKesson Foundation gave $25,000 to Ark House, an Irving nonprofit. Led by volunteers, Art House provides temporary, low-cost housing for patients, or families of patients, who have come to the area for extended treatment in Dallas hospitals.

Hammergren said he was excited to open the Las Colinas facility, and said Irving has welcomed his company warmly. He added McKesson was looking forward to being an ‘active corporate citizen’.

The new McKesson facility has room for over 2,500 employees, and came at a price tag of about $157m. Approximately 1,200 people currently work there, which leaves room for job growth in the future. The Las Colinas campus houses employees who work for McKesson in areas such as project management, purchasing, administration, and information technology.
