The Irving Independent School District (ISD) will offer tuition-based, full-day Pre-K programs at three spots throughout the district, to lay the foundation for youngsters to become successful students.
According to The Rambler, the programs will begin with the upcoming 2016-2017 school year.
Pre-K half-day programs are already offered for free, and the new option will be added to the extant programs at a weekly cost of $100.
Jose L. Parra, the district's superintendent, noted the district already supports programs that will help pupils “reach their maximum potential.” He also said adding a prekindergarten option that runs for a full day will help even more children prepare for school. Parra believes the full-day option will give students a solid grounding in writing, reading, and problem solving, so that when they leave prekindergarten to start school, they will perform well.
The Community Council of Greater Dallas noted that research has shown children who go to prekindergarten tend to excel early, go on to graduate from high school, and have greater successes in life.
Eligibility requirements for the full-day prekindergarten are that the child has to have turned four by September 1, and his or her parents or guardian have to be living in the school district.
