In a bid to bring families to the Heritage District in south Irving, a new development broke ground in mid-April.
The land, which comprises 20.64 acres along Delaware Creek, used to feature apartments, but will now hold single-family houses.
The developer on the project is K. Hovnanian Homes and Hines, which is the company behind Riverside Village and the Lakes of Las Colinas, among others. The new development will be built in phases, with Phase 1 scheduled to hold 40 houses, and another 60 to be constructed later.
John Danish, Irving city councilman, praised the project, saying it will bring new life into the city. Danish is particularly pleased that the project will revitalize the city's oldest section. He predicts that as families move in, retailers will follow, and the entire district will be reinvigorated.
According to Danish, the amenities to be offered in the new construction will be comparable to those of La Villita, though the price point in the Historic District will be much lower. However, the lower prices do not mean lower quality, and Danish notes new residents will be able to enjoy the new library, the Millennium Fountain, Centennial Lake, and the Irving Veterans Memorial Park.
