To celebrate the upcoming Mardi Gras holiday, Irving will host the 2023 Inaugural It's A Mardi: Mardi Gras 5K/10K next month.
Organized by the Lace Up Running Company, the race will traverse the scenic Campion Trail, a 22-mile greenbelt that runs along the West Fork and Elm of the Trinity River. There will be a chip-timed 5K course and 10K course for runners to choose from. As the run is Cajun themed, participants are encouraged to dress in their flashiest Mardi Gras costumes, with a best costumes contest occurring after the run. Along the race route, volunteers will be set up to cheer for runners, throw celebratory beads, and offer refreshments.
After the run, there will be plenty of post-race food, including King Cake, and festivities. Participants and their families will be able to take part in photo ops, and an award ceremony will also be held for male and female overall finishers, as well as the top three in each age category. All race participants will receive a custom medal and a designer shirt with the event Logo Design on it.
The Mardi Gras race will take place on March 12. Same-day race packet pickup will be from 6:15 am to 7:15 am, with the race beginning shortly afterwards. Campion Trail is located at 5950 Riverside Drive, Irving. The race fee is $45.
