Two Irving organizations, Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) and the City of Irving Code Enforcement Department, recently won national recognition for their work at the Keep America Beautiful National Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C., as reported in a KIB press release.
KIB was particularly successful, winning both the Sustained Excellence Award and the President's Circle Award. The Code Enforcement Department, for its part, won first place in the ‘Overall Community Improvement’ category, taking home the National Community Improvement Award.
Keep America Beautiful is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1953 with the goal of establishing programs and efforts, most of which are led by volunteers, to make beautiful spaces from public places. Over 620 affiliates are involved with the organization, at both the state and community level.
The senior vice president of Keep America Beautiful, Mike Rosen, said that community leaders like those from Irving helped to encourage meaningful and creative programs within their communities that have led to successful beautification efforts. He went on to say that Keep Irving Beautiful efforts have helped the city “be more socially connected, environmentally healthy, and economically sound.”
KIB's Jim Scrivner said the organization takes a lot of pride of its activities in Irving, and it was nice to be recognized by the national organization, though recognition is not the primary motivation.
Organizations like this can benefit by creating illustrated Brochures of their projects, which might inspire more people to volunteer.
