A festival that celebrates multiculturalism, and is just plain fun as well, is coming to Irving.
For the 13th year, the Marco Polo World Foundation is hosting the Annual DFW Dragon Boat, Kite, and Lantern Festival. The festival is part of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, and lasts for a full day. During the event there will be delicious food, dance, music, lantern,and kite making, and, of course, dragon boat races.
Last year, the celebration brought 20,000 people to enjoy the experience. This year, even more are expected to attend, and there will be more than 50 dragon boat racing teams taking part, coming from cities such as Houston and Austin, and other states as well. In addition, there will be more than 80 booths for vendors.
The Dragon Boat Festival originated in China, where it is a holiday traditionally celebrated on or near the summer solstice. Today, it is scheduled for the fifth day of the fifth month, but the actual date of the festival changes from year to year. Poster printing can be used to create colorful advertisements for this type of event.
At the present time, the Dragon Boat Festival is scheduled for May 17, from 8:30 am until 6:00 pm, at Lake Caroline in Irving. Those planning on attending should consider checking with the organizer closer to the date in case the schedule changes.
