Spring is on the way, and Hindus in Irving celebrated it with Holi Fest—a day of dancing, music, and throwing colored powders on one another.

The celebration took place at the DFW Hindu Temple, and is an annual festival that marks the end of winter and the coming of spring.

Throwing colored powder seemed to be the main method used to celebrate, and everyone in the crowd looked like they had walked through a rainbow. Utkarsh Meshram had green, hot pink, bright yellow, and deep purple, all over his face and body—and a huge grin as bright as the colors. He did not stand out in the crowd, however, since everyone was covered in the same hues. The colors can be washed out, but it takes some doing, and anyone who entered the temple was a target.

Although the festival is Hindu, people of all religions, ages, and races were invited to take part and have fun, and the day was set up to be a family event, with the colors signifying unity and new beginnings. Dancing also played an important part, with people moving to the beat of songs from Bollywood movies.
