Upcoming cultural festival will showcase Armenia

The Houston Armenian Festival is taking place next month for three days.

The festival is set to feature traditional costumes, native foods, music and dance among other activities.

There will be plenty authentic Armenian food available for sale. This will likely include fasulya (lamb stew), yalanchy sarma (stuffed grape leaves) and topik (chick pea balls in tahini sauce).

A local dance ensemble will be performing traditional dances and music will be provided by artists such as Sarkis Petrosyan. There will also be an Armenian dance class, a baking demonstration and an iconography class. In addition, guests can watch an instrument demonstration, attend a traditional Armenian costume runway fashion show or enjoy a traditional Armenian concert and a dance party.

There will also be children’s games and a photo booth where people can pose for pictures in traditional Armenian costumes.

Tours will also be available for the St. Kevork Armenian Church sanctuary.

Ticket prices are $3 for those aged 12 and over; the first 50 people through the gate will receive a free gift.

Houston poster printing firms will often supply their products to event like this to help spread the word in the community.

The Houston Armenian Festival will be held at St. Kevork Armenian Church from September 21 to 23. For the most current information, contact Ara Karamanian at 832-985-7272.
