Stars grace Houston stage to tackle gender identity

For those looking for entertainment that warmly points out the differences in men and women, the ‘Victor/Victoria’ production in Houston is it. The comedy features a female singer, out of work, who meets a flamboyant guy named Toddy.

In the story, Toddy convinces her to become ‘Victor’ and she becomes an overnight success, singing in nightclubs in Paris. It becomes complicated when she meets King Marchan, whom she views as the love of her life, even though he is a gangster from Chicago. The chaos is compounded when ditzy ex-girlfriend Norma enters the fray.

Incorporating the excitement of ‘Le Jazz Hot’, the humor of ‘Chicago, Illinois’, and the romance of ‘Almost a Love Song’, the musical seeks to offer something for everyone.

The Houston Theatre under the Stars (TUTS) has developed a something of a reputation with famous performers gracing the stage. Some of the well-known celebrities to have appeared at the venue include Debbie Reynolds, Tommy Tune, Tony Randall, Robert Wagner, Robert Goulet, Stefanie Powers, and Marie Osmond. Last year, it celebrated its 45th anniversary

Many performing arts entities use catalog printing to produce a marketing piece for attendees and sponsors. The Catalogs contain agendas, performer bios, sponsor recognition, and advertisements.

Victor/Victoria is scheduled for September 16-28, and more information is available via the theater’s website.
