Native gathering open to all

The 27th annual Texas Championship Native American Pow Wow is taking place this month in Houston, presented by the DFW Inter-Tribal Association.

Dancers will be competing in 18 categories for a total of $15,000 in prize money and awards. Some of the categories included are Tiny Tots, Junior Girls, Golden Age Men and Ladies (age 55 and over), and Men’s Traditional. Participants can be entered into a gas draw if they have traveled 200 miles or more.

The head singer for this year is set to be Larry Cozad and entertainment will be provided by Terry Tsotigh.

There will be plenty of traditional foods available for purchase, and an arts and crafts show. Those who wish to sell their handmade items can receive a 10 x 10-foot booth for $125.

The event will also have some traditional ceremonies and a tipi village so visitors can see how the Native Americans used to live.

Visitors from all over the Houston area and beyond will be sure to visit the Pow Wow for at least one day. In order to spread the word, organizers may have invested in flyer or brochure printing services.

The Native American Pow Wow will be held at Traders Village this weekend, November 12 to 13. Admission is free to the public. To find out more, call 281-890-5500.
