Museums come together to celebrate French art

‘Becoming Modern: Nineteenth-Century French Drawings from the Morgan Library and Museum and the Menil Collection’ will open this month at the Menil Collection.

The exhibit will present more than 40 works that have been exclusively selected from the displays at the two museums. The event will explore the shift in drawing from two centuries ago to the more modern role and styles of today.

The display investigates how drawing has become an experimental practice on an independent basis rather than the traditional function centuries ago. Developing a distinct style became the forward moving art of the late 1800s by artists such as Eugene Delacroix, Georges Seurat, Odilon Redon, Paul Cezanne and Vincent van Gogh. The Becoming Modern collaboration, set up in 2011, brought the two entities together for the purpose of developing discussion about their collective works.

The Morgan-Menil Fellowship program is partnered with exhibitions including Cy Twombly: Treatise on the Veil (2014-15). This display was at the Morgan last fall and originated in Houston.

Communicating artistic displays and exhibitions can be performed affordably by using colorful Posters. The Posters can be created by a local Print company in full color with a glossy top coat and mounted throughout the region to attract attention and interest.

The exhibition will be on display at the Menil Collection on Syl Ross Street from February 27 until June 14.
