The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center offers the public a variety of ways to learn about the world around them, and one of its events will shine a light on native plant propagation.
In recent years, it has become possible to propagate more species of native plants, which helps to prevent them being taken from the wild. The center’s Native Plant Propagation class will introduce several methods of doing so, and it is suitable for those age 12 and up.
The organization’s online listing explained that many local species of flora may be hard to find in the commercial trade, and everyone will learn how to collect and save seeds, as well as take root cuttings. Attendees will be able to walk away with a set of seeds and cuttings so they can use their new skills to get growing on their own. Other supplies will also be provided to take away.
As much of the learning will take place outdoors, attendees are reminded to dress for the weather. Ticket prices start at $55.00 for members and $65.00 for non-members. Flyer printing companies can often be utilized to prepare materials that spread the word about local learning opportunities like this one.
The Native Plant Propagation event will begin at 10:30am on Saturday, April 13. Nova Morales will be the instructor for the occasion, and the venue can be found at 4501 Woodway Dr, Houston.
