Houston to host day in honor of visually-impaired community

The white cane has become an awareness symbol for the challenges faced by the visually impaired, and it will be prominently featured during an event planned for Houston.

In mid-October, the city will be celebrating White Cane Day with a variety of activities, and everyone is invited to be part of the fun. It will kick off with an awareness march, and after this, there will be a schedule of programming for the visually-impaired community and the general public as well.

The day will include a variety of aspects designed to both raise awareness and also make sure that those with vision challenges feel valued. There will be a discussion of the history of the day as well as a mayoral proclamation, prize giveaways, a resource fair, guest speakers and a musical performance. Lunch will be served to the registrants.

The registration system for the occasion is now active, and there are a variety of ways for the community to get involved. They can choose to attend the function or serve as a volunteer or sponsor, and there may also be opportunities to set up a resource booth. Business card printing and other services for an information day or almost any other occasion can be sourced from a local printer.

Houston has made arrangements to host White Cane Safety Day on October 13th. It will be held at the University of Houston.
