Houston schedules sessions for dementia caregivers

Caring for someone living with dementia may not be an easy road to travel, but a Houston workshop series may help to lighten the load.

The Savvy Caregiver initiative will consist of six sessions meeting at the same time each week. It is intended for families and friends of people with dementia rather than healthcare professionals, and each installment will run for two hours.

The attendees in the program will be learning about dementia and how it can impact an individual’s personality and behavior. Everyone will learn strategies they can personalize to their own specific situation, and decision making will be discussed. Each of the classes will be interactive, and they are being offered thanks to support from Amazing Place. The class fee has been set at $25.00 each and it runs from early March until early April.

Support groups and workshops may be helpful to those living with a particular challenge, as they offer opportunities to both learn and meet others who are travelling the same road. A brochure printing company can prepare handouts for an activity, and they may include full color photos, diagrams, and other graphics.

The date for the start of the Savvy Caregiver dementia class will be Wednesday, March 5, and it will wrap up on Wednesday, April 9. The venue for the meetings will be 3735 Drexel Drive. All classes will run from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
