Houston festival to put birds front and center

Every year, billions of migrating birds pass through the Houston area, and in September, a special set of activities will welcome the return of these frequent fliers.

Houston Bird Week has been added to the area’s agenda for this September, and its organizers, Houston Audubon, hope it will draw a large number of visitors to the city. It will bring together an assortment of environmental stewardship, organizations as well as local small businesses that care about their feathered friends. All ages are encouraged to attend.

The schedule for the week is filled with activities, many of which will be both educational and fun. It will get off to a flying start with a kick-off party, and this will be followed by workshops, outings, art sessions, visits to local nesting colonies, and other bird viewing opportunities. Some will be in person, and there will be virtual options as well. A photo contest is also in the works.

A birding or other nature-based festival can combine learning with fun, while also doing a good turn for the environment. Banner printing and other promotional services for a function, large or small, can be obtained from a local printer.

The 2023 Houston Bird Week will run from September 23 to September 30. More details about the various activities and when and where they will be held can be found on the Houston Audubon website.
