Festival will celebrate Caribbean culture

The 6th annual Caribbean American Heritage Month Festival is taking place in Houston next month. It is presented by the Caribbean American Foundation of Texas.

The event recognizes Caribbean American Heritage Month, which has been celebrated since 2006 and each year is proclaimed by the President.

The festival is set to feature performances from cultural groups such as the Adrenaline Carnival Mas Band and Raices Dominicans, which is a dance group from the Dominican Republic. There will be a number of musical performances too, which will feature artists like Yamilka G., Anthony T., and the Baytown Renegade Steel Orchestra.

Visitors will have the opportunity to try many traditional Caribbean food and drinks. Vendors will be on hand to sell a variety of merchandise related to the region, including handmade arts and crafts. Other activities are set to include storytelling, dramatic readings, and author appearances.

Those of Caribbean descent in Houston, or those who are interested in learning more about the culture, will be sure to drop by this celebration. Flyers will likely be distributed to advertise.

The Caribbean American Heritage Month Festival will be held at Jones Plaza on June 4 from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Tickets are $14 in advance or $20 at the gate and free for children aged 12 and under. Contact Peter Rene at 713-836-0273 to find out more about this year's performers and planned events.
