Irish pride goes cowboy in Fort Worth

Cowtown Goes Green celebrates Irish culture at the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District.

An all-day St. Paddy’s Day event with a southwestern twist is what attendees will discover when they arrive at the Stockyards Cowtown Goes Green event.

The day includes live Irish music with cloggers and other dance troupes as well as the activities the Stockyard is famous for producing. Old West-style gunfights, plenty of cowboy poetry and much more. Children can take part in the armadillo races or have their faces painted among many of the other activities running throughout the day.

The events for the afternoon will end with a western parade along Exchange Avenue after the daily cattle drive. The organizers are still accepting sponsors and parade participants for the parade. Companies ready to show their Irish pride can sign up, do some banner printing and march along with everyone in the parade. Email Holly Conner at hconner@stockyardsheritage.com for information about sponsorship or parade guidelines.

Cowtown is a free, family-friendly event. It is the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the city of Fort Worth. The celebration takes place on March 16th at the Stockyards at 2501 Rodeo Plaza in Fort Worth.

The Stockyards celebration lasts from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The cattle drive begins at 4:00 pm, followed by the parade. Other events, including the Stockyards Championship Rodeo, will take place after the parade.
