Fort Worth museum honors a great American filmmaker

The ‘Happy Birthday, Orson!’ Film Festival will be taking place in Fort Worth next month. It celebrates the 100th birthday of filmmaker Orson Welles, who was born in May of 1915.

The Modern Art Museum's Magnolia theater will be showing a number of Welles' films over a four-day period. The opening reception will take place on September 3 and will feature a cash bar.

Several academics will be providing introductions to several of the films: Dr. Joan McGettigan is to introduce a few of the films and will host a question and answer period after the showing of ‘Citizen Kane’, and Dr. Rick Worland will introduce ‘The Lady from Shanghai’. There will also be a coffee and discussion for Modern Reel People members with Dr. McGettigan.

The other films to be shown at the festival are ‘The Magnificent Ambersons’, ‘Touch of Evil’, ‘The Stranger’, ‘The Third Man’, ‘Macbeth’ and ‘Mr. Arkadin’.

No doubt film fans from Fort Worth will make plans to attend at least one of these showings. To make sure as many know about it as possible, organizers may invest in poster printing services.

The festival will take place at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth from September 3 to 6. Tickets are $9 for each film, or $7 for museum members, and $6 for Modern Reel People and Lone Star members. To find out more, call 817-738-9215.
