Uber Jumps into Dallas electric bike and scooter market

Taxi service Uber is expanding its market share in Dallas by adding dockless electric bike and scooter options in the city’s urban center to its original rideshare business.

Called ‘Jump’, the company’s new service offers first- and last-mile answers to downtown commuting challenges that are affordable and safe. Via a city map located on the Uber website, consumers will be able to determine where the bike and scooters can be found. The northernmost location for them is on Knox Street with the remainder scattered throughout downtown Dallas, Uptown, and Deep Ellum.

Reserving an e-scooter or e-bike can be accomplished in the same way a car or meal delivery is requested, by using the Uber app. From there, users can locate and unlock a Jump e-scooter or pedal-assist e-bike.

Jump is introducing its service by providing rides up to 15 minutes for free through February 4 with a limit of five rides per day. From 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, during the launch, free helmets will be available while supplies last at 1801 N. Lamar Street, Uber’s Greenlight Hub.

Promotional Products and services are often employed when companies enter a new market or introduce a new service.

Uber has entered the vernacular and is sometimes used as a verb, such as ‘we’ll Uber there’. No doubt the company will hope that ‘we’re going to Jump’ will soon follow suit.
