The 275,000-square-foot shopping center will occupy the old Steakley Chevrolet site at Abrams Road on Northwest Highway. The 13-acre site was purchased about a year ago by the Houston-based developer Ainbinder Co.
Preliminary designs for the property feature an urban-style, two-level retail center complete with garages. The central complex will have room for a dozen stores, and two additional freestanding buildings will be included.
High Point Crossing is one of Dallas’s largest shopping centers under development. Its future retail space, which is located across the street from the Medallion Center, is being marketed by CBRE/UCR, a commercial real estate company.
According to Jeff Kittleson, senior vice president of CBRE, construction could start in 2017. As Kittleson said to the Dallas News:
"Preleasing with retailers takes some time."
Just west of the High Point Crossing location is Timber Creek Crossing. Retailers there, as well as those at the Medallion Center, will be keeping an eye on the shopping center’s timetable, as well as its growing tenant list. This will enable future adjustments to how they use their marketing services.
Retail space is at a premium in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with retail space availability at 8.5%. That is the lowest vacancy rate in 30 years.
