The Epic, a mixed-use development in Deep Ellum, will be partnering with Kimpton Hotel & Restaurants of San Francisco in the creation and running of a boutique hotel.
The announcement by Kimpton came after the Dallas City Council voted yes on June 14 to a proposal for a $2m tax break package.
The Epic development is part of a commercial and residential revitalization of the area. Already The Epic includes a luxury apartment tower, The Hamilton, which in addition to offering 290,000 square-feet of office space has 310 residents.
The new hotel’s name will pay homage to William Sidney Pittman the architect of the historic Knights of Pythias Temple, built in 1916. The hotel will be in that building at the corner of Good Latimer Expressway and Elm Street, which most recently housed the Union Bankers Trust Building.
The design will keep the original Beaux Arts structure and the essence of the building's fourth-floor ballroom where such illustrious blues musicians as ‘Lead Belly’ Ledbetter, Robert Johnson, and ‘Blind Lemon’ Jefferson performed.
It will be Stationery printers at the ready for the upcoming Kimpton Pittman Hotel in 2020. The hotel, when it opens that year, will have 5,000 square feet devoted to meeting space and 165 guestrooms, as well as a restaurant bar and lounge, an outdoor patio, a fitness center, and a swimming pool.
