Business Facilities recently announced that a local project, Uber Technologies General and Administrative Hub, has been awarded the magazine’s Bronze 2019 Economic Development Deal of the Year (DOTY).
Development awards can further fuel a community’s development, and a subsequent demand need for a variety of printing services.
Dallas was quickly put on the shortlist of potential locations when a new U.S. hub for Uber became a possibility. According to Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber CEO, Dallas was the first Lone Star city offering the company’s app and Deep Ellum’s cool, hip vibe contributed to Dallas’ selection as the country’s new hub.
The DOTY Bronze Award to the City of Dallas Office of Economic Development is anticipated to directly create 3,000 new jobs over the next decade for a direct economic impact of almost $700 million. A second tower is to be built over the next three years in the new mixed-use development The Epic across from the Deep Ellum rail station.
While waiting for the second tower’s completion, Uber will lease a little over 60 percent of the space in The Epic’s first tower, presently under construction. Once the larger, second tower if finished about 450,000 of its 500,000 square-foot space will be leased to Uber.
The company’s ground-breaking ride-sharing platform, will share space with Uber Eats, Uber Freight, Uber Health, Jump and UberPool its food delivery, freight shipping, healthcare transportation, electric scooter and bike sharing and public transit solutions respectively.
