The Grand Prairie AirHogs baseball team may be gone, but their stadium lives on and will soon begin the journey to its new life as a Major League Cricket (MLC) stadium.
Sometime in April a ground-breaking will take place to start the conversion of Grand Prairie stadium, which is located less than 15 miles from Deep Ellum, into a professional cricket oval. Local sports bars and other venues here, if they have not already added the sport to their marketing plans, may wish to start soon.
Bars and restaurants promoting the celebration of special events such as regional finals or other sports competitions often employ flyer printing services to spread the news.
As the Grand Prairie structure is being renovated, Morrisville, North Carolina has scheduled work on its second cricket oval. Everything should be finished by Spring 2023, when, according to the MLC, the two cities will be hosting the Cricket World Cup.
It may come as news to many that the sport has a following in the area, but according to Tom Dunmore, the MLC vice president of marketing, North Texas is home to active clutch of fans and players.
It appears that the relatively recent movement of many South Asians to the area has increased cricket’s popularity here as is evidenced by the existence of the North Texas Cricket Association and Dallas Cricket League’s, each of which promote the sport.
Following its rebirth as a cricket oval, Grand Prairie will hold 15,000-20,000 people.
