A representative of Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, a well-known and respected Memphis chicken chain, confirmed that a location will be opening in Dallas’ Deep Ellum in mid- to late-summer.
This will be the chain’s second North Texas location; the fried chicken franchise, known for its signature spicy coating, made its Texas debut in Fort Worth in 2016. Other locations can be found in Houston and Austin.

Established in 1953 in Mason, Tennessee by the Bonner family, Gus’s spicy, crispy chicken, which is milder than Nashville-style hot chicken, has developed a cult following. The secret batter is a family recipe that Vernon ‘Gus’ Bonner inherited from Napoleon and Maggie Bonner, his parents.
As well as its crunchy bronze crusted chicken, patrons will find sides such as potato salad and coleslaw on the menu in addition to pies that are made on site. In accordance with the neighborhood’s nightlife, the establishment will remain open later for weekend evenings.
The intended location for Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken in Deep Ellum is what was once a Humble gas station built in 1950 and located at the corner of Commerce Street and Malcolm X Boulevard.
