Originally founded by the Manzanares family in 2004, Mama Mia’s closed its doors at 2935 Elm Street in 2022 after being in business for 18 years. The family owned the property, but were unable to avoid succumbing to the COVID-19 pandemic's economic effects.
Banner printing services are often engaged to announce a grand opening such as this.
Anselmo Manzanares, the son of original founder Joe “JB” Manzanares, is resurrecting the business at the same location in partnership with Albert Gonzales and Robert Gonzales. Albert DJ’s on local radio stations and at local clubs, as well as being the owner of Mi Casa Mexican Foods, which his parents run for him in Mesquite. Robert has been both a record label owner and record shop owner.
The new Mama Mia’s will still revolve around the original Manznares family recipes; however, Culturemap Dallas quoted Albert Gonazales as saying:
"The original restaurant used to be mostly delivery. Our focus is to make it hip, bring more people in, have TV sets and other amenities to create a great on-site dining experience, too."
In addition to the new Mama Mia’s that will open in September, the partners will also open a speakeasy next door with its own North Walton Street dedicated entrance in November.
