Dallas Mixmaster less of a mess with more improvements to come

Entering and leaving downtown Dallas via way of the Mixmaster has frustrated drivers for decades, but the situation has improved and work continues.

Each day during the workweek, almost half a million cars travel through the Mixmaster. No less of an authority than the Texas Department of Transportation has conceded that the former design was confusing.

One example of an improvement that has already taken place is the switching of the exit for 30W from 35E’s southbound lanes. According to Dianne Tordillo of the Dallas Horseshoe Project, after decades of exiting to the left (which needs last minute merging to get into position), the 30W exit is now on the right. Other improvements that are now in place include the elimination of the need for vehicles to exit onto city streets as a means of gaining access to other interstate directions.

Managers for the Dallas Horseshoe Project say that more ramps and exits are planned.
