Continental Gin scheduled for reopening as office building

In 2021, a historic building in Deep Ellum will be reborn as an office building, thanks to help from the Dallas-based coworking company Common Desk.

The Continental Gin Building, located at 3309 Elm St., was built in 1888 and in its earliest days played a part in the global cotton market. The building became home to an elevator manufacturing company in 1962, and then was turned into low-cost rental space for artists in 1982. The property was acquired by August Real Estate Co. in 2018 and, after the required approval and finalizing of a design, restoration began in 2019.

Printing services are frequently called on to create signage for a project long before it is finished.

Common Desk began in 2016 partnering with landlords to increase value by outfitting coworking spaces. The company’s collaboration with August Real Estate Co. will include input on almost every element related to the building’s future, such as the design, fixtures, furnishings, equipment, marketing, property management and leasing support.

Taking up almost 22,000 square feet, Common Desk-Continental Gin will utilize the whole second floor, thereby becoming the second Deep Ellum location for the company. Included in the space will be flexible team suites, small- to mid-size private offices, coworking space, lounge areas, and phone booths. Tenants will enjoy on-demand coffee, free parking, unlimited conference room usage, and cocktail delivery.

The project is anticipated to be ready for operation sometime in 2021.
