Produce company finding new ways to sell fruits and veggies

FreshPoint Dallas, a local produce company that used to sell directly to restaurants and other retail establishments, is now working at finding other markets in response to the COVID-19 closing of in-house dining at restaurants and of schools.

Although it usually restricts its sales to regional and national foodservice customers, FreshPoint Dallas, one of North America’s largest fruit and vegetable distributors, is trying out pop-up sales. Two pre-packaged Boxes are offered, each costing $20, with one containing fresh vegetables and the other featuring fresh fruits. The Boxes are sold curbside in the parking lots of its customers, so members of the public do not have to leave their cars.

Shane Lovell, company district manager has said that a couple of pop-ups have already taken place and more are in the planning stage. Beside pop-ups, FreshPoint Dallas will also be filling orders from members of the public to be picked up at its warehouse. According to Lovell, a list of 75 items is available from which customers can select. The form can be emailed and the order will be brought out to the customer’s car at the warehouse.

Advertising an upcoming pop-up is often done via help from a flyer printing service.

One factor that the public will appreciate is that these fruits and vegetables have not be handled multiple times at a store. Only shippers will have handled this produce.

FreshPoint Dallas, which opened in 1865, is presently owned by Sysco.
