Real estate company Five Smooth Stones has just purchased Market Ross Place, a Dallas mixed-use, multi-building property at 1701 N. Market Street.
Built in 1905 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Market Ross Place is a three-building complex connected by a five-story atrium and containing 142,000 square feet of office space and four restaurants.

The new owner is Five Smooth Stones is headed up by Dallas native Owen Hannay who also owns Slingshot LLC, which is an ad agency. Hannay began investing in this part of Dallas in 2000 when he purchased the Awalt Building located at 208 N. Market Street going on to owns nearly 250,000 of the 1 million square feet of the area’s office space.
One of Five Smooth Stones most prominent purchases was the six-story Landmark Center in 2004. That building was a former FBI regional center. After renovating the Landmark Building it was sold in 2006 to Argus Realty Investors LP in 2006 before being repurchased by Hannay in 2023.
In March 2026, the purchases of three retail buildings and the West End Parking Garage situated across the street from Market Ross was finalized adding 35,000 square feet of retail space and 650 parking spaces spread out over six levels. Among the structures in that parcel are the former Gators restaurant, the Museum of Illusions and the building that holds Cannon Bakery and Mas Tacos.
